Enhancing radar imaging system performance directly boosts the effectiveness of automatic target recognition (ATR) systems. The recent NATO SET-250 Research Task Group (RTG) on multi-dimensional radar imaging, active from March 2017 to October 2021, introduced new ideas and solutions for advancing radar systems and algorithms by leveraging extended dimensionality—such as multi-frequency, multi-polarization, and multi-view/multi-pass radar.
With the rise of drone-like platforms, it is important to evaluate and compare multi-dimensional radar with traditional mono-dimensional systems, particularly regarding their ability to support target classification and recognition. A major initiative of the RTG was the RAF Spadeadam Trials, which involved four different airborne radar systems and produced a range of unique results, summarized throughout this book.
This second volume of Multidimensional Radar Imaging presents declassified findings from SET-250 and is essential reading for anyone involved in the research or development of SAR radar imaging systems.
